The day of the vote to convict or acquit Donald Trump over two articles of impeachment, I watched Alabama Senator Doug Jones deliver his reasons for conviction. As I sat watching Senator Doug Jones give his statement on why he will vote to convict Donald Trump, I felt emotionally moved. He articulated the courage of morals and country over president. He convincingly made the statement that there is only right versus wrong. And right should always prevail over wrong. He cited his upbringing in Alabama as one of the reasons why he must stand with truth and justice over lies and injustice. He stated that: “Doing right is not a courageous act. It is simply following your oath.” “Our country deserves better than this” president. As a trial lawyer like Mr. Jones, he laid out the case for why both articles of impeachment should result in a conviction vote. Just as we do in court rooms to juries, he stated that folks should not leave their common sense at home. In this impeachment … [Read more...] about Senator Doug Jones, a Fellow Trial Lawyer, Speaks Truth to Power

Confessions of a Corrupt President by His Chief of Staff
Acting Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney spoke during Thursday's White House briefing about Donald Trump’s phone call to the Ukrainian president. Mulvaney made it clear that Donald Trump demanded information or an agreement to investigate the Biden’s, Hunter and Joe Biden, in exchange for the release of U.S. aid monies to the Ukrainian people. Mulvaney almost seemed defiant in the remarks stating “Get over it. There’s going to be political influence in foreign policy.” Mulvaney spoke better about Trump's corruption and abuse of power than Richard Nixon did during Watergate. Mulvaney confessed openly and proudly. I know an admission or confession from my days as a former prosecutor. And Mulvaney’s remarks amount to a confession of wrongdoing by Donald Trump. He stated Trump froze aid to the Ukrainian country in exchange for an investigation to find dirt on Hunter Biden and Joe Biden. The remark shows there was a quid pro quo by the Trump administration. No … [Read more...] about Confessions of a Corrupt President by His Chief of Staff
My Top Ten Wishes (Satirical) For the Fake SOTU
Donald Trump gives his second State of the Union Address (“SOTU”) tonight. I look forward to the Democratic rebuttal to be given by Stacey Abrams. Abrams who ran for governor of Georgia is the new face of the Democratic party. Black women have supported the Democratic party by overwhelmingly voting in higher numbers than any other group in 2016, 2012 and 2008. Yet, the Democrats have often ignored Black women while trying to win back those whites who left the Democratic party beginning with President Lyndon Johnson in the 1960’s and have yet to return. As I look forward to hearing Stacey Abrams tonight, I also wanted to share my satirical top ten wishes for the fake SOTU. In my David Letterman voice, here goes the top ten in reverse order beginning with number 10. 10. The wall becomes a non-issue and all federal government workers rejoice without the threat of a pending shutdown hanging over them. 9. Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg arrives in her workout attire and begins her workout … [Read more...] about My Top Ten Wishes (Satirical) For the Fake SOTU
Roger Stone’s Fate at a Trial Will be Decided by Blacks
Roger Stone was arraigned in D.C. federal court today. As expected, Stone entered a plea of not guilty. An arraignment hearing is for the purpose of advising the defendant of the present charges against him, allow him to enter a plea of guilty or not guilty plus state additional terms of the defendant’s pre-trial release. Stone had to give up his passport and cannot contact any witnesses. If he violates the terms, he goes to jail pending his trial date. As for Stone, he is slowly learning what it means to be a defendant. Stone voiced concerns about being arrested in the early morning hours with over 20 FBI agents. His specific concern was that he was arrested with more force than Osama Bin Laden. By the way, Osama Bin Laden was shot to death during the raid on his house. The courtesy of affording a white -collar defendant the ability to turn himself in with his attorney at his convenience is exactly that… a courtesy. It is not mandatory, as Stone discovered. Now the real reason why … [Read more...] about Roger Stone’s Fate at a Trial Will be Decided by Blacks
Pelosi v. Trump: Politics Over Money
Donald Trump may have likely met his match with Speaker Nancy Pelosi. With the government being shut down, Speaker Pelosi raised concerns about Trump giving his State of the Union address before the government re-opens. In a letter addressed to Trump, she stated that he should delay his speech until after the government reopened. Her concerns were for security and the fact that nothing entitles Trump to give a state of the union address, in the manner he intended. In other words, it is almost like a nothing burger. Pelosi had also made plans to embark on a trip with a Congressional delegation to Afghanistan. Trump in like Trumpeon fashion retaliated. And this is where the story gets interesting. Trump denied the delegation use of government military planes to travel to a war zone. He likely saw Pelosi’s trip as grandstanding. It was a visit to the troops and to engage in government business. Despite denying Congressional use of government planes for government business, Trump … [Read more...] about Pelosi v. Trump: Politics Over Money
The Extreme Hypocrisy of the Republican Party
The Republican party was once known as the party of Abraham Lincoln. Now it is known as the party of Donald Trump, a reality star, creator of the birther movement and race baiter in Chief. Time and time again, the Republican party has shown its hypocrisy in the Trump era by failing to speak out against racism and bigotry. The other day, Congress failed to censure Iowa Representative Steve King for saying “White nationalist, white supremacist, Western civilization—how did that become offensive?” To answer King’s statement, white supremacy was offensive to many persons as far back as Abraham Lincoln’s time. The House passed a resolution condemning white supremacy but failed to rebuke King. Every Republican House member should have requested a vote on censuring King, if not seeking his resignation. It is not enough just to fail to appoint him to committees. Steve King should have been asked to resign for his hideously racist comments. Time and time again, the Republican party fails to … [Read more...] about The Extreme Hypocrisy of the Republican Party
